Jakob Sommers teachers Modern and Hip Hop classes.
Hip Hop- In this class students will explore different styles within the Hip Hop family such as: Funk, B-Boy, Vogue, and Lyrical Hip Hop. These styles are blended to create a fun and precise set of movement. The class consists of a high energy warm up to get the body going and wake the body up. We will then explore different kinds of skills and movement and work them into pieces of choreography that carry those skills into a larger piece of movement. Music in this class will range from quick and upbeat to smooth to get different textures within the dance style.
Contemporary/Lyrical- These styles of dance are a combination of Ballet, Jazz, and Modern. The class will focus on exploration of new forms of expression through movement. The class is geared towards building strength and flexibility as well as emotional connection to movement.
The class structure includes a full body warmup to properly prepare the body for full out movement. We will work on a repertoire of movements, tricks, and turns to place in choreography. This class will have music that ranges from scaled back to very involved with the movement.
